Based around the ethos of Forest Schools for self-exploration and self-regulation, the days will consist of guided activities and free play to allow children to choose the activities that best suit their style of learning, and their interests. The activities are designed to increase self esteem by developing skills throughout the week, increasing in difficulty and allowing more independence.

Location of Woodland Explorers and Survivors

The playschemes are being run at a private woodland at Lower Hockley Hall Farm, Lower Road, Hockley, Essex, SS5 5LT. The camp/activity area will be at the top of the woodland, although much of the site will be explored, including the pond.

How to book

A provisional booking should be made by phoning 07795 252814 or emailing enquiries@inspiringoutdoors.co.uk . A booking is not confirmed until you have a response inviting you to the trial session in July. At this time you will see the site and try an activity alongside your child. A non-refundable deposit will be payable on the day once you are certain that our playscheme is right for your child, and we are confident that your child will enjoy our programme.

Safety guidelines

Our staff have been trained to ensure that the session meets the needs of the group, and

is conducted safely. It is essential that they are listened to at all times. The practitioner

will observe and evaluate the children's progress, and plan activities to develop their

skills further. All our activities are fully risk assessed, and the children will be involved

in identifying the risks on the first day.

As our ethos is to allow exploration and self regulation your child will at times be working  under remote supervision (within a 20 metre squared area). Any child not adhering to the safety and behaviour rules agreed to on the first day will be limited to the activities they are allowed to do. In extreme cases, Inspiring outdoors reserves the right to ask parents to remove their child from the playscheme, during or at the end of a session.

Medical and consent forms

It is essential that our staff know the medical needs of your child. You will be asked to complete a medical form and sign to consent to the type of activities that your child will be involved in. Children must bring sun hats, sun cream and insect repellent.

What happens if the weather is bad

With our motto, ‘There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes’ we will be outside as much as possible. A waterproof tarpaulin will be set up at the main site to shelter from wind, rain and the cold, and the children will be building their own shelters. We will only relocate a session if the wind is particularly strong and it poses a hazard.

What to bring

An equipment list will be given to you on the trial day once final booking is made, however no special items are required except wet weather gear.
