For children from 4-11 years old activities included fire lighting, natural art, den building and so much more. Creative Partner - Learning Outside the Classroom Birchwood Primary School, Lincoln We have designed this project to support staff to deliver more of the curriculum outdoors. Already we have created Australia in the school grounds, planned raised beds, and are now creating a large scale map of the world, with a mural of the landscapes they might visit. We have also made links with a school in Finland to compare our climate with theirs. Growing Project Consultant and Deliverer Groundwork Green Groove Project Five schools and one Surestart centre are involved in the Green Groove project to showcase container growing and encourage students to eat more fruit and vegetables. I have been working with Groundwork to develop the project to ensure its sustainability by integrating it into the whole school environment. Action Learning Days Deliverer Keep Britain Tidy I am working with various groups around the regional to offer support to develop community projects with youth groups. East Midlands Judge Learning Outside the Classroom Awards 2010 I was very proud to have been asked to judge the Learning Outside the Classroom Awards for the East Midlands region this year. And we had two national winners in Lincolnshire - St. Michael's, Thorpe on the Hill and Lady Jane Franklin. Creative Partner at St. Lawrence's Special School, Horncastle Creative Partnerships April 10 - July 10 What an exciting opportunity to work with the staff and students to help them develop key areas of the curriculum around the school's animal unit, and their grounds. All students were in some way involved in the project from Year 10 enterprise designing interpretation, decorating and preparing for the animal unit's open day, to the primary class developing resources around phonics to use. The primary classes were also given a taste of Forest Schools with Esme the woodland elf.  Sustainable Schools Advisor Lincolnshire County Council/CfBT Education Trust Oct 07 - current I continue to work as a consultant for Lincolnshire County Council and CfBT Education Trust as their Sustainable Schools Advisor. I am currently organising the Get It Sussed curriculum days, and this year's Get Out There CPD events. I offer free advice by phone or personal visits on ways to work towards the Framework for Sustainable Schools. I am developing creative curriculums around ESD and supporting teachers to integrate ESD into their everyday teaching, and can offer a consultancy to develop these in your school. I can also give school grounds development advice, and 'using your school grounds' training, to inspire and raise awareness of Learning Outside the Classroom. I also developed and maintain the content of our online handbook at www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/sustainableschools Tutor for Woodland Art session at Mayfield Education Centre, Sheffield Inspire (formerly known as Sheffield Arts Education Team) 11th June 2010 A great day was had by students, staff and us tutors on a gifted and talented Woodland Art day featuring Esme the Woodland Elf. East Midlands Sustainable Schools Showcase Organiser Lincolnshire County Council/CfBT Education Trust 09/10 I organised the showcase which offered support to school staff, governors, students on school councils/eco-committees, and anyone able to support schools to become more sustainable. With 121 exhibitors, talks including Ofsted and DCSF and activities for students it was a great day attracting over 1400 people. Details can be seen on www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/sss. Developing and using school grounds teacher training Skegness area primary schools cluster Jan 10 Thirty five teachers and teaching assistants took part in training on developing the grounds as a whole school approach and how to use their grounds in a variety of ways. Speaker to teachers from Singapore British Council Dec 09 The British Council invited me to speak about developing Sustainable Schools to teachers from Singapore. 'Developing Sustainable Schools' Conference Speaker Optimus Education with Teaching Expertise School Grounds Development Project Seathorne Primary School Jan 09 - Oct 09 I have been facilitating a whole school approach to the development of the school grounds at Seathorne Primary School, including setting up a management team, fundraising, and promoting the inclusion of students and parents in all aspects of the development. Sept 09 sees the development of two more areas for Year 2 which will be planned and executed by the students themselves as last year. Centrica Mar 09 - current This year has seen the development of worksheets about the wildlife of our beaches, and the turbines. A copy of this can be downloaded on the interpretation page. A schools competition is also being co-ordinated by me for the opening ceremony of the wind farms, and we are awaiting permission for interpretation boards to be developed for the foreshore. Keynote Speaker and Facilitator at the Young Environmentalist's students workshops in Dubai, UAE Emirates Environmental Group and British Council Oct 08 I was asked to visit Dubai to be the keynote speaker and facilitator of a three day student workshop on 'Green Living' and 'Green Schools'. After seeing examples from Lincolnshire schools and our national schemes, I am sure many of the students were inspired to consider changes to their lives. This was an amazing opportunity to impact on the country with the largest average carbon footprint in the world!!! (90 schools from the whole of the United Arab Emirates). School Grounds Development Project - Year 2 creative curriculum topic Seathorne Primary School Sept 08 - Oct 08 I have been working with two Year 2 classes and their staff to develop their outside area as part of their topic work. It has been a great success and I will be reporting on this shortly to encourage more schools to undertake such a project. Ecological Learning Expedition development - freshwater invertebrates British Ecological Society and Science Learning Centres Oct 08 - Dec 08 I developed the Freshwater Invertebrate section for the teachers web based learning portal on the Science learning Centre's website. By undertaking this online CPD teachers should feel more confident that they have the knowledge to lead pond and river studies. I enlisted the help of Hellen Hornby to complete this work with me. Centrica May 07 - Jul 08 I designed schools' presentations and workshop for Centrica Energy. The first phase was the development of a cartoon character called Whoosh and a powerpoint presentation with video footage narrated by him explaining how the wind farm off Skegness was being built. This was presented in assemblies to schools around Skegness. I have also developed pupil and teachers worksheets for Glen of Foudland wind farm, and photographic information sheets on the construction of the Skegness wind farms. Summer Playscheme at Bythams Primary School Aug 08 (and 07) In the last two summer holidays I had a great week at Bythams Primary School running environmental education activities. Based in the school grounds and the community woodland we spent the week being ants, surviving a plane crash and building solar cars. 'Using the outdoors for teaching' course East Riding of Yorkshire Council Jul 08 I ran a course at a nature area in Leven, near Beverley, used by Leven Primary School. It was a great day of activities designed to help teachers and teaching assistants feel confident in using the outdoors for exploration and all aspects of the curriculum. Acting Head of Freiston Environmental Education Centre CfBT Education Trust, Lincolnshire School Improvement Service Feb - Aug 08 I supported the staff of CfBT's Freiston Centre for Environmental Education. This has been a great opportunity for us to work together to ensure the centre is showcasing ideas and offering you support to teach sustainability and environmental issues, and develop your school grounds. I have also helped them develop their marketing including their website and promoting new courses. The Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts May 07 I completed a preliminary sustainable action plan for The Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts at Newark. I worked with all the staff via face to face contact and email surveys to establish the current practices within the charity, then offered suggestions for improvement. Please note this was not a carbon footprint calculating service. There are various web based calculcators you can use for that.
